Jewellery valuation basics
How gemstones, metals and makers affect what your jewellery is worth.
Pricing & value
Diamonds are graded on the 4 Cs: cut, colour, clarity and carat. Grading reports from laboratories such as GIA add credibility.
Metal purity (14ct, 18ct, platinum), weight, maker's marks and condition all matter.
Retail price, insurance replacement value and resale value can differ widely — ask which one your valuation states.
