Try a limited palette of three colors, paint to music, use only palette knives, or crop a tiny part of a photo and enlarge it.

Other prompts: layer and scrape back, pour paint, work with tape for hard edges, or paint the same composition in four color moods.

Abstract work still needs contrast, a focal point and balance — judge it from across the room.
